The Lake District...

Hazel Cottage is the perfect base for touring the Lake District. Ullswater (below) is only 12 miles away and any of the Lakes can be visited easily within a day, but returning to the tranquility of the Eden Valley for evening. Enjoy a days fell walking, take a trip on a lakes steamer or just enjoy the scenery.

The historic border city of Carlisle is only 18 miles north of Hazel Cottage. Here you can visit the castle, cathederal, citadel and Tulley House Museum all within short walking distance of each other.

Here you can also spend time shopping in the 'Lanes' shopping centre. There are also an increasing number of specialist restaurants in the city and night spots along the recently redeveloped Botchergate area.

A short way north of Carlisle you can visit Hadrians Wall (below left) which runs from the Solway Firth in the west to Wallsend in the east. Particularly interesting to visit is Birdoswald Roman Fort (below right) only 30 minutes east of Carlisle.
